Paul Bernstein, Mr. Physical Fitness, USA, has had a successful career in
health and fitness spanning more than 40 years. Born in Coney Island,
New York, in 1933, he grew up in a tough neighborhood. He began lifting
weights when he was 16 years old at a gym because he was so skinny.
After he began to develop a muscular body, the local bullies left him
alone. Following his tour of duty in the Air Force, where he received his
training in physical therapy under Dr. Ivan Kusinitz; the Father of
Sports Medicine, he became one of Vic Tanny’s first managers in
California. From there, he moved to Texas and became the youngest
Boys’ Club Director in the history of that organization.
In 1956, he opened the first health spa in Beaumont, Texas. That health club was the
first in a large chain of health clubs that extended from Colorado to
Virginia. Since that time he has founded three health club chains and has
served as a consultant for many more. In the 60’s, he had his own health
and fitness show.
He has conducted seminars on health and fitness, lectured,
and has written a column for TV Magazine. In the late 80’s, he was
invited to serve on the Presidents’ Council on Fitness & Sports. Because
of his youthful appearance and his experience in health and fitness, he
was invited to be a charter member of the American Academy of Anti-
Aging Medicine (A4M) at its inception and was interviewed by 48 Hours,
Prime Time, Texans, and TNN 2000.
His height and size, plus his rugged
good looks make him perfect for the roles he has played in movies as a
heavy. He has appeared with such well known veterans actors as Vince
Edwards, Loren Green, and Lee Majors. |
